Therapy for Health Professionals

As a doctor or health worker you may well have chosen this career as a vocation. However, it can be tough and your job will often expose you to experiences and unique pressures that can be difficult to manage. For some people, this can trigger difficulties with mental health, or make existing problems worse...and it can be really difficult to ask for help.

Maybe you think that you should be able to cope and if you are struggling, that makes you weak, or a failure.

Maybe you have concerns about confidentiality and what seeking help in the same health system you work in could mean for your career.

Or you have already had help through the NHS or your Trust's Employee Assistance Programme and yet you are still struggling.

If you can relate to any of the following, I may be able to help.

Are you constantly feeling anxious about work?
  • having that 'Sunday night feeling' whenever you are working the next day
  • feeling under-confident & overwhelmed in your role
  • avoiding tasks or taking on new responsibilities
  • being overly concerned about what others think of you & your work

Do you find yourself unable to leave work at work?
  • checking up on patients after you get home
  • worrying excessively about clinical decisions
  • having sleep problems because of anxiety
  • thinking work/life balance is only for other people

Are you still thinking a lot about things that have gone wrong or having nightmares?

Are you struggling to manage your day job with exams and family responsibilities?

Are you feeling disillusioned, burnt out or that this job is not for you after all?
For the past decade, I have been working clinically with health professionals, mainly doctors, dentists and pharmacists, who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

I have a good understanding of the intrinsic pressures of working in healthcare, including post-graduate training, and the common stress reactions and mental health difficulties that can result.

Even better, I have a proven track record of helping people overcome them using CBT and other therapeutic approaches.
